THE SWAN INN
LEWES
_______________
The pub is split into two distinct areas but all served by the same central bar
Confusingly the private bar comprises the larger, main area of the pub with an open fire and access to the garden (seating for 35).
We tend to not book out the entirety of this space exclusively to one party.
The smaller of the two bars (seating for twenty) this bar is more drinky with bar stools, board games and a woodburner.
The Saloon bar is a great place for a party.
We clear the furniture to make way for our banging dance floor on our regular DJ nights.
This room is often used by people wanting to throw a celebration or host an event.
We recommend a maximum capacity of 40 guests will fit comfortably in this space with room for a buffet table, less if you factor in the space for a DJ.
Although the area is not a private hire function room (the difference being that other customers may wander into your party – we don’t corden it off, we just reserve all the tables for you) it does provide a good degree of separation from the rest of the pub, whilst also providing excellent access to the bar.
We have a marvellous pro-audio sound system installed into which you can plug in an MP3 device to play your own music to set the mood.
It’s safe to say our garden in our pride and joy. Split into two parts, a walled lawn garden and a cobbled courtyard, we modestly believe we deserve the crown of Best Beer Garden in Lewes.
Since 2012 our marvellous gardener has been hard at work making our garden the glorious space it is today (if you see him say Hello, he’s very friendly).
Our planting style very much embraces the English cottage garden aesthetic with lots of bird boxes (some of them in use), picnic benches and perennials.
Since 2016 we have been self-sufficient in sage, rosemary and oregano courtesy of our carpark veg patch.
In winter 2018 we added a heated and covered pergola for when the sun goes down or decided not to shine.
Please note – we don’t take bookings for the garden, just turn up and grab a pew
We are lucky enough to have a carpark but it tends to get very crowded.
Sadly the pub isn’t ideally set up for disabled customers. Both street entrances have steps and sharp turns.
The garden entrance is better and we have a ramp behind the bar which makes the main room wheelchair accessible.
However, the toilets are small and there is no separate disabled toilet.
Neither of our pub toilets are large enough to accommodate a baby changer but if you talk to the bar staff they’ll be happy to show you to the upstairs changing table.
We have some highchairs, a kids menu and a small selection of colouring books, crayons, toys and games.
Dogs are very welcome throughout the pub, but please keep them on a lead.
